Welcome to anyone in the world who is interested in the historical development of Emmen,
a municipality (population 107.000) surrounded by a number of villages in the province of
Drenthe, The Netherlands.
A few years ago this website was started by private initiative. Meanwhile it is
strongly supported by a number of highly enthusiastic people whose hobby has to do with
either history, genealogy and /or archeology.
It was amazing to experience the interest in this subject, not only amongst the
population of Emmen but "Historisch Emmen" got reactions, suggestions, contributions
and photographs from all over the world!
So far the site is completely drafted in the Dutch language. However, the enthusiastic
reactions from different part of the world made "Historisch Emmen" decide to offer a Question
an Answer service in a number of languages. So, if you have any contribution to
make or if you have specific questions, please e-mail in either Dutch,
English, German, French or Spanish. We have some helping hands available to communicate with
you in either of these languages.
On the left side of this page you will find a survey of subjects that are dealt with in
the Dutch version of the site. If you would like to have somewhat more specific information
on one of the topics that are dealt with in the survey, please let us know, and we will try
to give you a translated summary of that subject.
